Official and Fan Translation Policy

Hello, fellow netrunners.

As there’s been a few different translation groups engaging with the FVN space recently, I want to publicly set out this policy for clarity.

Official Translations

String Zero officially supports only a Spanish translation at this time. However, we are interested in including and supporting other languages in official releases.

However, because String Zero contains novel vocabulary, we are invested in making certain intended meaning is (mostly) maintained across languages. To that end, for official translations, we are only interested in working with translators or translation teams who are open to our involvement, feedback, and review. If that is you, please reach out to us directly.

We are especially interested in:

  • Chinese
  • Japanese
  • Russian

Unofficial (Fan) Translations

Unofficial or fan translations are welcome, but for the above stated reasons, we will not be promoting those officially. Fan translations must abide by the following rules:

  • Fan translations must be clearly titled as an “unofficial fan translation.”
  • Fan translations may not be uploaded to itch.io.
  • Fan translations may not be sold at any cost.
    • The singular exception is temporarily paywalled translations that will be made free and public after a set time or on a rolling basis. (Older translations are made public/free as translations for newer content is released.)
  • Fan translations may not be the unmitigated or unedited result of AI or Machine Translation.
    • In short: Please don’t post a translation you simply ran through a machine. A lot of work went into the writing of this story, so please respect that effort by taking the time to post a thoughtfully- and carefully-considered translation.

We reserve the right to pursue corrective action against parties who do not follow these rules.

Thank you!
